Why I’m Running: This Election Is a Job Interview
When you cast your vote, you’re deciding who you trust to make decisions on your behalf.
I bring something most candidates don’t: professional experience grounded in legal accountability, four years of analytical work on Victoria’s planning and governance decisions, and a track record of public engagement without a political patron to answer to.
As an international construction and projects lawyer, law professor, and former tribunal member, I have spent my career examining complex decisions, weighing evidence, and holding parties and institutions to account. Those are the same skills needed at City Hall today.
I’m asking for your support as someone who will respect your money, respect your future, and help keep Victoria within reach for working families, seniors, and young people.
It’s time to put residents back at the centre of decision-making.
I will do the work. I will follow the rules. I will tell you the truth.
2026 Campaign Platform
You cannot manage what you do not measure.
Victoria does not have a revenue problem. It has a management problem. City Hall must start with what residents can afford, make its spending visible, and justify major decisions in public.
I will deliver:
- A real-time taxpayer dashboard and a public civic land inventory
- A single-meeting model, an independent Integrity Commissioner, and free votes on non-fiduciary matters
- Zero-based budgeting and a 90-day consultation before tax increases above inflation
- Independent financial assessments for major OCP amendments and public integrity reviews for contested rezonings
- Shared-service and procurement savings that reduce local tax burdens
City Hall is spending your money, not its own.
Neighbourhoods should shape planning decisions, not merely react after the fact.
Victoria needs clear rules, meaningful consultation, infrastructure-first growth, and commitments from developers that are enforceable after the vote.
I will deliver:
- Early, binding CALUC consultation for significant land-use changes
- Neighbourhood-based OCP reform and certified infrastructure capacity before major upzoning
- Sunset clauses, phased agreements, Section 219 covenants, and full financial disclosure for major approvals
- A material-change rule, public lobbyist registry, heritage impact assessments, and local DCC reinvestment
- Net-positive urban forest and Garry Oak protection
Growth should happen with neighbourhoods, not simply around them.
Growth should add housing without erasing the affordable housing Victoria already has.
More density is not affordability when it displaces renters. Victoria needs family-sized missing middle homes, firm tenant protections, and public land used for long-term affordability.
I will deliver:
- Pre-approved pattern-book housing, fee relief for small-scale infill, and family housing targets
- Suite legalisation with a homeowner concierge service
- One-for-one rental replacement, a lesser-of right of return, and tenure-based relocation support
- Open-book reviews before any affordability requirement is relaxed
- Housing feasibility for civic projects and 99-year leases for co-ops and non-profits on city land
Housing policy should leave Victoria more affordable than before.
Transportation should support a functional city, not reshape neighbourhoods by stealth.
Roads must work for emergency services, transit, businesses, pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, seniors, and people who rely on accessible parking.
I will deliver:
- An emergency-response audit and an OCP Emergency Access Overlay for major corridors
- Full disclosure when transportation projects are linked to parking reductions or density increases
- Neighbourhood impact assessments before significant street reconfigurations
- Advocacy for reliable BC Transit, an Inner Harbour water-transit feasibility study, and public parking replacement
Victoria should be easier to live in, not harder.
Compassion without accountability eventually fails both the public and the vulnerable people these systems are meant to help.
Public-safety commitments need a responsible lead, a timeline, a cost, and a measurable result. Residents deserve to see whether the city’s spending is making a difference.
I will deliver:
- A safety performance contract and real-time public safety dashboard
- Restored VicPD capacity and protection for the gains made through tiered dispatch
- A city-provincial community paramedicine partnership
- Frontline consultation before major policy changes and OCP safety benchmarks
- Support for downtown businesses and firm advocacy for provincial responsibility for complex care
Compassion should be measured by results, not rhetoric.
